Welcome
Andrea Hewes was born in Norfolk and spent her early and teenage years living in England and Western Australia. In the mid 1970’s she did a Foundation Art Course at Oxford Polytechnic, and in 1981 followed this with a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design at Middlesex Polytechnic.
"My work is inspired by studies of nature, here in the UK, as well as from Western Australia where I visit my family.
I work in many different mediums including acrylics, oils and oil pastels, but am also enjoying printmaking, particularly screenprinting and lithography. I also take commissions in animal portraiture.
My interest in screenprinting is allowing me the freedom to explore colour more deeply, as layer is added to layer to produce unexpected results.
I am a technician at Oxford Printmaker's Cooperative, a member of Oxford Art Society and a volunteer art facilitator at Steppin' Stones, a centre which provides day long support for homeless and vulnerably housed people."
